Most events take place at Círculo de Bellas Artes in the city centre. The dates coincide with Madrid's 2nd of May Festival, a public holiday that commemorates the 1808 uprising of Madrid inhabitants against French domination. In keeping with this theme of 'breaking free' and liberation, the programme features gigs by independent artists from an eclectic mix of genres.
Monet and Abstraction – until 30 May
Monet and Abstraction aims to explore the crucial but still little studied role of this great Impressionist painter in the development of abstract painting after World War II. The exhibition takes the form of a survey of the artist’s work. Monet’s works will be displayed in the rooms of the Museo Thyssen and at Fundación Caja Madrid alongside paintings by Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Sam Francis, Joan Mitchell and Gerhard Richter, among others, offering the visitor the chance to appreciate at first hand the connections between them.

D.O. Restaurant. Barcelona
A small and modest restaurant where you can order classic Catalan dishes, that come in small portions. A remarkable dish from this restaurant is the codfish in tomato sauce or `croquetas´ (a kind of croquettes filled for example with cheese, ham or vegetables). The menu is in Catalan only, but if you use a bit of your imagination, you´ll know what you eat. A real surprise is the `menu de degustación´, a menu that consists out of nine tapas en three desserts for two people. They also offer more than 300 different kinds of wine.

The art of power – until 23 May 2010
This exhibition offers an exceptional opportunity to see an important selection of works from the Prado displayed for the first time alongside the collection of armour belonging to Patrimonio Nacional. This is an unprecedented concept for an exhibition and one that establishes a direct comparison between the court portraits painted by leading masters such as Titian and Rubens and the armour worn by Spanish monarchs that symbolised their power at the height of that monarchy’s splendour. The Art of Power. The Royal Armoury and court portraiture.
