Subsequently, these celebrations were adopted by Catholics in honor of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.

National windmill day. Amsterdam.

windmill amsterdamNational windmill day.

This May you’ll be able to enjoy ‘Windmills day’, which is considered a national holiday in Amsterdam.  Do not miss this special occasion by visiting Habitat Apartaments and renting an Amsterdam apartment to celebrate this festive day together with the local Dutch people.

Holland is famous for its windmills which in the past were originally built to help the Dutch deal with the water shortage. A large number of windmills can be seen all over Holland and were the base of Holland’s economy.

The windmills were built as unique, singular and attractive structures. Once a year, on the second Saturday of May, the windmills open their doors to visitors. A blue flag flown on the windmill indicates that it is open to the public and also they are decorated with flowers and Dutch flags. The windmills were not built in urban areas and therefore will give you the opportunity to visit countryside areas on the outskirts of Amsterdam.

This event attracts a large number of tourists to Holland and is well worth the visit. So come and see it for yourself & enjoy Holland!

Queensday. Holland.

queensday AmsterdamQueensday in Amsterdam.

You can´t mis this Dutch festival. Celebrate it during your stay in the apartments from Habitat Apartments. They have a great selection apartments in Amsterdam.

Throughout the Netherlands the Dutch celebrate Queen's Day, actually the Queen Mother's birthday, with a national party. Amsterdam crowds dressed in orange enjoy citywide open-air festivities, all day and right through the night until the evening of the following day.

The main areas of activity in Amsterdam are Damrak, Leidsestraat, Rokin and Spui. Vondelpark caters for children and bands play on Prinsengracht and Rembrandtsplein. Gay celebrations are centred on the Homomonument and Reguliersdwaarsstraat. There are also parades, craft shows, flea markets, children's parties, street theatre and fireworks.

For those who love second-hand shopping, all street trade is unregulated, giving rise to a nationwide car-boot sale. If you are a royal-watcher, there is always the chance to catch sight of Queen Beatrix, who chooses one or two cities or towns to visit each year.
