The Barri Gotic, or Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, is the city's historic centre, located within easy reach of Las Ramblas and stretching as far as the Mediterranean seafront. Many of its buildings date back to medieval times, and there are even some well-preserved Roman walls. The Barri Gotic is a captivating maze of winding lanes, opening out onto historic market squares such as the attractive Placa Sant Jaume, featuring the old city hall and presidential palace. On short breaks in Barcelona, you can explore the area easily on foot and much of it closed to motorised transport. In this area you can see also the cathedal,plaza cataluña, plaza Sant Felip Neri, Carrer del bisbe, las ramblas, la plaza real and you have a lot of bars and restaurants. Also the portal de l'angel is a must see. This historic quarter of narrow and, in many cases, pedestrianised streets and squares is full of character and charm and home to hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants.
