After 23 successful years, the Sunsets Film Festival has become a true open-air institution in Amsterdam. The backdrop of the Vondelpark, complete with creeping shadows and a cool summer breeze, provides the perfect setting to sit back and enjoy film classics on a giant screen.
The Amsterdam Film Festival celebrates films that capture both the artistry and progressive nature of world cinema today. Created to recognize and award films that have potential to move audiences and change perceptions, the Amsterdam Film Festival is devoted to filmmakers whose quest is self-expression and communication.
For two months, film classics are screened every Friday night. And as the screenings take place on the Vondelpark pavilion terrace and are a collaboration of the EYE Film Institute with café/restaurant Vertigo.
This year, the wildly varied programme ranges from Easy Rider through indie classics such as Bienvenue chez Les Ch'tis to faves throughout the decades – think 1945's Brief Encounter and 80s vampire flick Lost Boys.
