Christmas season officially started in Barcelona last wednesday. With more than 50 miles of lighting, the Christmas spirit took Barcelona´s streets.
Barcelona's Mayor Xavier Trias announced the official start of Christmas season and general lighting in all districts of Barcelona. The event took place in Catalunya Square, where Trias himself turned on the ligths of a 12-metres-high Christmas tree. In other points of the city, Trias decided to locate six-metre trees. Catalunya Square is a strong representation of a New Yorker Christmas, thanks to theice rink and the giant tree.
The Mayor invited citizens to "revive the traditions of this holiday" but did not loose the opportunity to claim the occasion as a form "to revive the economy, attract thousandsof tourists, boost trade and create jobs."
Yesterday the Shopping Night at Passeig de Gracia also took place, a night full of events, shopping and fun. Everyone including citizens and tourists need to take a breather and forget the difficult time of global crisis for a moment.
