The royal palace was built in the 9th century, originally the Islamic kingdom of Toledo build it. Later, the kings of Castile go in. In 1734, the Palacio Real completely destroyed by fire, but immediately gave King Felipe V ordered a new palace to pull in the same place.
Although the Spanish royal family no longer lives in the palace, it is still the official residence. There are still taking place official ceremonies. The palace is open to the public including painting collection by Caravaggio, Goya and Velásquez.
