July in Florence

Florence attracts tourists most of the time because of its impressive Duomo, the famous Ponte Vecchio and the city’s general historical atmosphere. But besides all of its amazing monuments, Florence also convinces with some nice events taking place in July. Check out what’s on the schedule and plan a perfect programm for your own summer trip to the Tuscany!

Florence Dance Festival: Get ready to move your hips to the beat – or at least watch people do it: the Florence Dance Festival is just around the corner! This annual event delights the region every summer with rhythmic performances, this year  taking place at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. All of the acts come from the renowned Florence Dance Center and show choreographies of various genres performed by all age groups. The famous club was founded in 1987 and has become an active and inspiring place for both dancers and artists to develope their personal skills. From July 1st to 26th you can enjoy Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern Dance, Ballet, experimental performances and Co., so really everybody loving the art of dance should attend. Five Senses Yoga Retreat: Do you currently face a lot of stress and pressure? Maybe it’s an intense job, a demanding family or just high expectations of yourself – if there is something exhausting you, it could be time to find relaxation. What a lucky accident that the Five Senses Yoga Retreat programm is about to take place in Florence from  July 7th to 11th. It’s a complete annual yoga journey organized by the scenery famous instructors Erin Lewis (founder of EAT.PRAY.MOVE in New York) and Shari Hochberg. The main idea is to concentrate on one sense each day and to – one the one hand – get in touch with the world of yoga and on the other hand discover the beautiful city of Florence including its sights, food, drinks and atmosphere. One day can for example feature a biking tour through the Tuscany, a massage at the spa and a tasting of the regional cuisine. Sounds quiet good, doesn’t it? FAMILY MATTERS: This is really an interesting exhibition. “Family Matters. Portraits and experiences of family today” presents the work of eleven international artists showing different faces of what “family” means nowadays. What can be seen by visitors are various images presenting diverse concepts, structures and dynamics of families in a contemporary world. Facing the fact of how colorful and far away from serving an old-fashioned stereotype this way of living in 2014 is, people might experience a refreshing eye-opening of what family today really means. Interested visitors are welcome to populate the Palazzo Strozzi where this amazing showing can still be admired until July 20th. A little hint: there is free admission on Thursdays from 6pm to 11pm!

Fiera di Santo Spirito: Everybody who can spend ages wandering the streets searching for fancy little treasures will simply love this thing. On July 13th the Fiera di Santo Spirito will again take place in Florence. On every second Sunday of each month this amazing market dedicated to vintage products, antiques and handicrafts takes over the Piazzo Santo Spirito in the heart of the city. From 9.00am to 19.00pm visitors can outlive their shopping-love, breath in the nice, bohemian atmosphere and work on their haggling skills :-)
