Festa San Giovanni: When you happen to be in the dreamlike area of Tuscany in June, try to be in Florence at June 24th. Every year Florence celebrates its patron saint San Giovanni on this particular date, honoring the city’s guardian with a public holiday. Since shops and offices are generally closed, visitors and tourists can celebrate the feast together with the Florentines and are able to get to know a real, local tradition first hand. On “Festa San Giovanni” there is a lot to discover throughout the whole town: festivities already start in the morning with a nice parade starting at Piazza Signoria to fleet Florence and find their highlight in “Calcio Storico Florentino” later in the day – a famous historic soccer game taking place at Piazza Santa Croce.
