Wow Amsterdam, you did it again! When it comes to great events of all kinds the Dutch capital really strikes the pole position in Europe. As this amazing city already did throughout the whole year, Amsterdam pleases us with a delightful schedule planned for August and makes this summery month even hotter!
World Rowing Championship 2014: Let’s kick-off with something sporty! From August 24th to 31st an impressive number of over one thousand athletes from all over the planet will populate the city to be part of the World Rowing Championships 2014. The premier rowing event of the year features 27 events in total, providing several para-rowings. Of course, this happening is extraordinary special to the numerous participants, but also the not-so-sporty public is warmly welcomed and won’t be disappointed by the nice and fun programm including music, performances, games, food stalls, beer gardens, picnic areas and Co. You can find further information – also on the ticket prices – easily on the official website.
Mysteryland: Be prepared to face an event of one of a kind! Mysteryland is a great and renowned Dance and Music Festival that has developed an image of one of the most unique and creative festivals in the world – even though the current age of festivals brings up some strong competition! Within the Floriade festival grounds in Haarlemmermeer you will find a fairytale location with open fields and intimate spaces that transform into one magical place on August 23rd. On the performance schedule is usually a lot of great electronic music of all colors including some dance, hip hop, dubstep, house and techno. In addition, you can find exhibitions by small-scale artistic collectives and theatre makers. The regular entrance is 72,50€ and be purchased online.
Grachtenfestival: This is an event you really shouldn’t miss while in Amsterdam in August. The Grachtenfestival is internationally probably one of the most famous events of the Netherlands and a spectacular happening that takes place every year in the Dutch capital. From August 15th to 24th the historical city centre of Amsterdam, which is by the way a UNESCO World Heritage, hosts this traditional festival providing entertainment of all fields of interest. Especially great are the annual music performances and productions featuring big names as well as newcomers and young artists giving them the unique possibility to face a great audience and take their career to the next level. In its 17th year more than 50.000 visitors are expected to attend this manifold success – be one of them!
Pluk de Nacht: Open-Airs are a pretty big deal during the summertime almost everywhere, so it is no huge surprise that the metropolis of Amsterdam has something great to bring to the table in that matter as well. Pluk de Nacht is the city’s own open-air film festival providing free outdoor cinema to the public. From August 6th to 16th people are welcome to have a seat at Het Stenen Hoofd to benefit from nice screenings within an idyllic, a bit nostalgic, atmosphere provided by a high-tech multiplex. If you’re not speaking Dutch too fluently, no problem: a lot of the movies of all genres are shown in English or with subtitles.
