The Chinese New Year – also known as the Lunar New Year – is the most important day in the Chinese calendar. In order to celebrate this day, huge festivities are taking place, which are meant to lead into the New Year. For this event, cities become decorated with red balloons, garlands and blow-outs. In the evening, the whole family gets together and has a feast with fish and chicken. Moreover, children receive gifts from their relatives. At midnight, a firework starts and lasts until the early morning.
As a lot of Chinese people are living in the Netherlands, these festivities are also being held in Amsterdam. In the photo below, you can see how these festivities look like.
