Since March isn’t too warm in a lot of places yet, heading south might be a good idea for all of those, who would like to reach spring a little earlier. If you are one of those people Venice could be the right place to go. Better keep reading because we know what is going on in that beautiful city in March!
Carnival: When talking about March and Venice it would be just wrong not to mention the Carnival. Since this festival is not only one of the biggest events in town, but also in the whole world, everybody should experience some of it at least once. Going back to the year of 1162 the Venations celebrate their Carnival annually. In 2014 the fun takes place from February 15th to March 4th – so everybody planning a trip to the “city of bridges” on the first weekend of March has the pleasure to enjoy the last days of this great spectacular – and could even take part in celebrating the famous final party “Mil y una noches” on March 4th. Whatever exactly you might decide to do, just admiring all the people dressed up in gorgeous, historical costumes and elegant masks will definitely be worth a week-end-visit.
Up and Down the Bridges: Everybody loving sports – or just watching it – will certainly enjoy this event. “Up and Down the Bridges” is a non-competitive run in Venice, which happens to be every year. Taking place at March 30th nearly everybody has the possibility to challenge this common running since different routes for various ages are being offered. Passing the whole city over streets, squares and bridges the name of this event – which originally is “Su e zo par i ponti” – definitely fits. For more information about that lovely tradition feel free to follow this link.
Vivaldi and Opera: Two things which seem to be just naturally connected are Italy and opera! Especially the traditional town of Venice offers a lot of great possibilities to enjoy classical music of very high quality. Warmly recommended can be the staging of “Vivaldi and Opera”, staring the famous “San Marco Chamber Orchestra”. Giving eight concerts between March 3rd and 31st the professional musicians recreate the magical music of legend Antonio Vivaldi (1678 – 1741), who even composed his delicate pieces in Venice itself. Taking place in the stunning concert hall of “San Basso” not only the music but also the scenery will be a great pleasure. Don’t hesitate and book your tickets today.
The Story of Venezia: Combining a great range of different cultural offers Venice does not only has the opera. Also those who prefer the spoken word will definitely find something to enjoy. Whoever would like to see a great stage drama and learn something about Venice at the same time should consider visiting “The Story of Venezia”. Planned to be not only entertainment but also a celebration of its beauty, its importance and its unique nature, people will be introduced to the history of Venice via acting. Probably way beyond a dry history lesson, everybody wanting to get to know more about the culture of this famous city should take their seats on March 1st at the theatre “San Gallo” at 7.30 pm. Ticktes can be bought here.
