Every year in Spring this classic rail excursion sets out from Madrid. With this train you will travel back in time, you will travel in a authentic steam locomotive from 1957. The Strawberry Train follows the old Madrid to Aranjuez rail route.This route was the second railway that was build in spain. Every Saturday and Sunday until mid-October (excepting the months of July and August). The excursions run from Spring (late April or early May) until the late June or early July and then again from mid-September to mid-October.

The train departs from the "Museo del Ferrocarril" (Train Museum) at 10.00 in the morning and arrives in Aranjuez at 10:50h. The return journey departs from Aranjuez at 18.25h, arriving again at the Museo at 19.15h.

The ticket costs 26euros and includes a guided visit to Aranjuez's beautiful gardens and palace. The palace once was a retreat for the Spanish royal family. The gardens are open all trough the year, just outside of the palace you can find the jardín de isla, with many beautifull fountains.

All passengers receive a plate of Aranjuez's famous delicious strawberries served bu hostesses dressed in period costume. Aranjuez is famous for their fruit and vegetables grown here, facilitated by the favourable micro-climate this region enjoys. Giant strawberries, asparagus and tomatoes from Aranjuez are renowned for excellent quality and taste throughout Spain. You may find several small stalls along Aranjuez's roads selling these goods. Another way of sampling the local produce is by visiting one of the local restaurants. La Rana Verde, Casa Pablo and El Fais¡n are to be recommended, although perhaps not for everybody's budget.
