As always, Madrid is going to celebrate Easter in a big way. People can expect a number of processions, taking place in the streets of Madrid.

Preparation for the Easter holidays start already a week before, adorning and decorating carved images and sculptures in the churches, which will be shown off during the processions.

Two processions taking place on Palm Sunday and Wednesday before Easter are called Cristo de la Fe y el Perdón and Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Salud. They take place around the streets at Puerta del Sol (starting and finishing in Calle de la Salud).

The most popular ones take place during the Easter Triduum though, commemorating Christ's death. Famous processions are Nuestro Padre Jesús del Gran Poder, María Santísima de la Esperanza, Jesús Nazareno, La Virgen de la Soledad, and Divino Cautivo.

Easter in Madrid is nothing without torrijas, bread soaked in milk with cinnamon and afterwards fried in a pan, or Soldaditos de Pavía (crispy fried chunks of cod), Madrid style chickpea stew (with spinach, cod, potatoes, and egg), and cod croquettes.
