Rome is an adventurous city packed with tons of history. If you are overstrained by the amount of attractions you have to visit, we listed the 5 most important touristic attractions in Rome for you. Now you simply have to take our guide and enjoy the city.
 

1. The Colosseum

This is of course the most known and most famous monument in Rome. This beautiful amphitheatre was build a long time ago (72 AD) to entertain 50,000 of people with gladiatorial battles. Many people lost their lives within the fights; nevertheless it was always a spectacle to go there. Nowadays, this brutal tradition is of course only a memory and the Colosseum is simply an amazing historical monument.
 

2. Trevi Fountain

I am pretty sure; you saw this one already in a couple of love movies. This 26 meters high fountain has a beautiful architecture with a wonderful atmosphere. It’s one of the most popular fountains in the world. The Fontana Trevi is full of coins from people who had a big wish and hope it will turn out to be true, by throwing a coin into it. Nicola Salvi started the construction in 1732. Rearrangements and renovations were made several times.
 

3. St Peter’s Basilica

This church is one of the largest ones in the world, located within the Vatican City in Rome. It is a totally holy catholic church. The famous dome is part of Rome’s skyline. Be careful: This Basilica is not the Pope’s official seat!
 

4. Roman Forum

This place was for years in the past an important centre in Rome. Public life, including elections, speeches and gladiatorial fights, took place there. It is located right between the hills Kapitol, Palatin and Esquilin. Today the ruins of important constructions around the place are left. They belong to the most important archaeological excavation today.
 

5. Piazza Navona

This place is characteristic for the baroque Rome. It was built in the 1st century AD next to the Stadium of Domitian. In the past the public used this place for games and competitions. That’s why it was called “Circus Agonalis”. In the middle of the place, one can find another famous fountain called “Fontana dei Quattro Fuimi”. There are several other monuments on this square, so it is definitely worth to visit it.

 

Indeed, this was only a small portion of what you should see during a vacation in Rome, but now you  at least have a clue about the most important attractions.
