Highlight of events in Barcelona May 2016

With a new month come new events. We will tell you the most popular events that are going on in May in the city of Gaudí: Barcelona.

The CCCB is one of the most popular cultural institutions and opens its roof space for once one day each month, to give visitors the chance to experience the viewing point on the fifth floor. Through a glass façade, you can view Barcelona from a rare perspective, catching a glimpse of Barri Gótic, Ciutat Vella, Montjuïc, Tibidabo, the tower of Collseral and the sea.

Admission is free.

Formula 1 Gran Premio de España 2015
8 May 2016 – 10 May 2016

One of the biggest weekends on the Barcelona sporting calendar, the Spanish F1 Grand Prix drives into town once more at the Barcelona-Catalunya Montmeló circuit, where it has been held since 1991. The main event is the Sunday race, but there are lead-up events, starting with a pit lane walkabout on Thursday 7th (for holders of a three-day or Sunday ticket), before the qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday. If you go with your family, a kids' zone offers entertainment for 3- to 12-year-olds.

Museum Night – La Nit Dels Museus

The idea of visiting a museum at night holds a strange allure – it will give visitors a different kind of experience. A visit that is more mysterious in any kind of way.

More than 80 museums and cultural centers are open in Barcelona on the evening of the 21st from 19:00-1:00, with free entry. Many cultural delights awaits the visitors, such as live music, theatre and dance performances, poetry, workshops, guided tours, gastronomy, storytelling and other interactive themed shows. The popular Eat Street festival sets up mobile kitchens that will satisfy those midnight cravings near Plaza de la Glòries.

February 2016 in Barcelona – An opportunity to avoid or celebrate Carnival

February in Barcelona could be the great opportunity to escape from the clownish Carnival parties in your hometown. However, it could also be a chance to discover the Catalan way of celebrating Carnival at only  just 15km outside Barcelona.

Barcelona is the great opportunity for the people who want to avoid the clownish party in their own city. On the other side, The real lovers of Carnival have the opportunity to take the trip to the village ¨Sitges¨ which is only 15km away from Barcelona and a very popular Catalan place to celebrate Carnival. 

Carnival is celebrated in almost the whole world. The name of the festival is officially refffering to carne vale (Which means farewell to meat), During those days, the idea is to eat and drink as much as you can before the fasting begins. 
The funny costumes, are one of the many reasons to witness this special event during the month of February.

El Foro is a meeting point for gastronomy, art and culture. Located in El Born for a decade, the restaurant welcomes us in a bistrot-like atmosphere divided into different spaces and a decor that is part of its charm. Hiking the Montjuïc

Three kings day

The three kings day (Dia de los Reyes Mayos) is one of the most celebrated festivals in Barcelona. The day itself is on the 6th of January, But the main party starts on the evening before the official day. The three wise man will arrive around 16:30 at Port Vell.  From there, the parade ( Cabalgata de Reyes) will go through the city of Barcelona. During this parade, the floats are highly decorated and music is playing while they are going sweets and small gifts to the sweet children, and give coal to the naughty ones. 

The finish of the parade will be around 21:30 at the junction of Avinguda Rius I Taulet and Avinguda Maria Cristina, Close to the Magic Fountain of  Montjuic.

Torre Agbar

This relatively new attraction of Barcelona ( opened on 16 September 2005) is probably the most beautiful in the winter months. the tower represents a water fountain that constantly changes its appearance. Depending on the incidence of light, the tower changes its colors – the colored aluminum sheeting that reflects the light consists of 40 different colors of high gloss.

December 2015 in Barcelona is a great opportunity to expierence the warm catalan Christmas culture.

December is the month of woolen sweatshirts, cozy blankets and hot beverages. It is time to forget the sweaty summer and enjoy the pleasant winter in one of europes greatest Cities.

Caga Tio

Catalan christmas is a bit different as the Christmas you are probably used to. One of the special Catalan traditions is ´Caga Tio¨ which is translated as the shitting log. Caga tio is a hollow log that Catalan children display in their house from 8th December. The children will cover the whole time with a red blanket to keep it warm. On Christmas Eve, The children will hit the Caga tio with a stick and sing songs till it starts ¨pooping¨ Presents.

Ice Rink

During Chirstmas time, You can find various ice rinks through the city of Barcelona. The biggest and most populair one will be at the famous Placa Catalunya. This ice rink will have a surface of 1400 m2 and will be open from the 27st of November till the 10th of January. Ice rink Barcelona 2015

Christmas food traditions

The Catalan celebration of christmas is not only different with caga tio. It also has an own tradition of food during the December month. A typical Christmas dish in Barcelona is “Escudella i carn d'olla”, This is a bowl of pasta shells in a meat and vegetable stew or soup. Stores and Bakeries in the city will also sell a special bread for Christmas which is called “El Pa de Nadal”.
Please note that not all the restaurants and shops will be open during Christmas time in the city.

Barcelona will give you the perfect opportunity to find your Christmas presents during your stay in the City. On Thursday 3rd December the ¨Barcelona Shopping Night¨will take place. During this night, the shops in the city will be open from 20.00 til 01:00 to give you the change to do your Christmas shopping during the evenening. There are various events during these evening such as live music and shows.

Catalan Christmas Traditions

December is the month to Experience the Catalan Christmas traditions in Barcelona.

Christmas time is one of the most charming periods in Barcelona. During the month December there are plenty of activities to do in the Catalan city. We have already listed the most popular Catalan Christmas Tradition for you. So you can experience the Catalan culture as a real local.

Caga tió

Caga tió (shitting log) is a Christmas character which is a hollow log that the Catalan children display in their house from 8th December. The children cover the log with a red blanket and feed it every day till Christmas Eve. On that day, the children beat the caga tió with a stick and sing songs until it starts pooping present and candy.
