Halloween and All Saints Day
Monday 31st of October is the celebration of Halloween and on Tuesday 1st of November is the All Saints Day. Halloween is not a Spanish or Catalan tradition, but it has been celebrated in a big way. In Barcelona there are many fancy dress and costume parties, and kids are doing the “trick and treat”, or as it is called in Spanish, the “truco o trato”.
The All Saints Day is a public holiday in Spain. The tourist shops and attractions will still be open. One of the traditions in Barcelona on 1st of November is called “La Castanyada” which means “chestnut time” and it is a tradition of eating roasted chestnuts, sweet potatoes and drinking sweet muscatel wine. The “Castanyers i Castanyeres” roast and sell them on the streets.
