Ciutat Vella is a district of Barcelona and it means “old city” in Catalan. Ciutat Vella is nestled between the Mediterranean sea and the famous neighborhood of Eixample. It is considered the center of the city. Ciutat Vella is one of the most lively and varied districts in Barcelona, you can see Gothic churches reaching for the sky, palaces that are built by businessmen back from the colonies. The four quarters of Ciutat Vella
On the one hand, we have the Raval, which is a multicultural neighborhood and now is one of the most colorful districts. We have also the Gothic Quarter with special architecture and there are many shopping streets. The third is the neighborhood of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina I la Ribera where Born is, the bohemian part of the quarter and fourth is Barceloneta which is the beachy neighborhood, you will find some good restaurants, swimmers, people who are surfing and a nice beach to take a walk.
Museum of the History of Barcelona
It is a history museum that conserves and exhibits the history of the city from its origins in Roman times until now. The Museum is located on Plaça del Rei that is in the Gothic Quarter of Ciutat Vella. It is a good experience to learn about the rigging of a huge Roman settlement, all these excavations are very impressive.
Santa Maria del Mar
Santa Maria del Mar is a Gothic church, it was built between the years 1329-1389 and is an incredible example of Catalan Gothic style of architecture. The way that this church was built is amazing and is worth it to see it with your own eyes.
