Labor Day: May 1st is a national holiday in Spain. Celebrating the international Labor Day, Spanish people are able to enjoy one great day off work to stay home relaxing with family and friends. The May 1st celebrations were established in the end of Francisco Franco’s dictatorship in 1975 and first officially hold in 1977 to honor the worker’s economic and social achievements. Since offices and shops are closed that day, May 1st is the perfect opportunity to spend cultural quality time because museums, art exhibitions etc. are usually open. In addition, people can watch or join different peaceful meetings and demonstrations all over the city.
