Corpus Christi 2017 Barcelona
Corpus Christi is celebrated in Barcelona from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th of May. It is one of the oldest celebrations in Barcelona and has been taking place since 1320.
This year there will be two Corpus Christi processions featuring traditional figures like the giants, traditional Catalan music, and the Barcelona animal legend figures. Usually the other route start from Plaça de San Jaume, going then down on Carrer del Bisbe, and finishing at Plaça Nova at the Gothic Quarter. The second procession called Processó de Corpus Christi starts from the Barcelona La Seu cathedral, and ofter going around the Gothic Quarter finishes back at the La Seu cathedral.
One of the Corpus Christi traditions is to make an egg “dance” on a jet of water. This tradition has been part of the celebrations since 1637. The “Dancing Egg” can be seen usually for example at the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres, the Poble Espanyol Spanish village at Montjüic area, the cloisters of Barcelona cathedral La Seu, and the Pedralbes monastery.
