October in Barcelona

October is the perfect time to visit Barcelona with the sun still shining, you will benefit from missing the biggest tourist rush periods. There will be more space to breathe and enjoy the city and all the exciting things going on in October while still enjoying the on average 23-degree weather

Sitges Film Festival (3rd-13th)
Sitges Film Festival coined as the “Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia” celebrates its 52nd edition this year. It is one of the oldest film festivals in Spain with the first edition taking place in 1968. This event is considered to be the most important fantasy film festival in the world, as it exhibits the best films and awards in the fantasy genre. The festival is also very famous for its zombie walk which takes place in the streets of Sitges. Sitges is situated just outside of Barcelona, but not to worry as there is a “Fantastic Train” connecting the two, including trains every night of the festival running at 1:30am so you can fully enjoy the festivities. Sitges is also the perfect place for an easy day trip anyway with its beautiful beaches and close proximity, so the festival is just another incentive to give it a visit. El Clásico at Camp Nou (27th of October)
El Clásico is one of the most viewed matches in world football and involves the two biggest football teams in the world; Real Madrid & Barcelona. This match only happens once or twice a year at Camp Nou, so you are in luck if you happen to be in the city this October. The first meeting of the two teams this season is set up to be a blockbuster as both teams have heavily reinforced their squads this summer. If you don’t manage to get tickets for the big match don’t worry as there will be opportunities to see other games from La Liga & the Champions League group stage.

International Jazz Festival (starts on the 19th of October)
Barcelona’s International Jazz Festival has been held every year in Autumn for over forty years. The festival is held in locations all over the city and hosts some of the greatest jazz artists in the world. Along with performances, there will also be a number of free events, master classes and events for the whole family.

Oktoberfest (3rd to the 13th of October)
Barcelona has its own Oktoberfest, the festival of German origin. The event takes place in a huge tent that is 6,000 square meters in size. The festival is free to attend and will have Bavarian music accompanied by German beer (to purchase). If you like alcohol, then you will definitely enjoy your nights here with the event staying open until 1am on Friday and Saturday night/morning and 11pm every other day.
