El Born, also known as La Ribera, is one of the most historic parts of Barcelona, being part of Ciutat Vella (old city). This quarter is nowadays one of the most popular and fashionable area in Barcelona. El Born, with its international atmosphere, nightlife and wealth of cultural attractions, has a lot to offer.

Passeig del Born

During medieval times, joust tournaments took place on this street, which we call nowadays Passeig del Born (spanish: Paseo del Born).
This street has experienced a lot over the past centuries. Today, the heart of the neighbourhood, it houses plenty of small shops, galleries, restaurants and cafés. It is very popular among independent designer and young folks.
El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria

Once a food market in the 19th century, it changed into an archeological museum, when they discovered historic remnants from 1700 during the restoration.
The museum is admission free and definitely worth a visit.

Santa Maria del Mar
The basilica was built in the 14th century and is a perfect example for Gothic architecture. It is famour for its beautiful stained glass, which date back to 15th and 18th century. The interior is very spacious and well lit with dancing colours from the stained glass.
Estació de França

Estació de França is considered as Barcelona's most beautiful rail station. Built in the 19th century, it was the main station for trains arriving from France, Costa Braca and North East of Catalonia. Its interior design is comprised of marble, bronze, and crystal decorations.
Museu Picasso

Museu Picasso is housed in Palau Aguilar, the original house was built in the 13th century and undertook major renovations between the 15th and 18th centuries.
After Barcelona City Council bought it in the 3rd of November 1953, Museu Picasso was opened. It hosts one of the most extensice art collection of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, counting up to more than 3.500 works.

Palau de la Musica

Palau de la Musica Catalana is a concert hall, which was designed by modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and built between 1905 and 1908. The concert hall was built for the prestigious choral society "Orfeo Catala". The interior was designed in the Catalan Art Nouveau style. Beautifully carved façade abd the colourful central glass light, the building is aesthetically pleasing and therefore should be on your bucket list.
