Cathedral of Girona – Great Sept of Baelor The first and most iconic site that you must visit is the Cathedral of Girona in the Plaça de la Cathedral. Girona’s Cathedral was built between the 11th and 18th centuries with a gothic-style nave that is the widest of that kind. The sculptures of Twelve Apostles are magnificent and 91 stone steps are also worth seeing.
If you approach the cathedral from Via Augusta, you will pass under a large archway where Jamie Lannister and his troops marched to prevent Margaery’s atonement. Great Sept of Baelor is the place where Tyrion Lannister and Sansa Stark were married and where the marriage ceremony of King Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell took place. When Joffrey was poisoned at his own wedding, his funeral was held at the Great Sept of Baelor, and after Tywin Lannister assassination by his son Tyrion, his funeral was also held there. Lords and ladies from all over the Seven Kingdoms were lined on these steps waiting to give their respects.
Sant Pere de Galligants – Maesters’ citadel
Sant Pere de Galligants is Romanesque 11th-century monastery that is home to an Archaeology Museum of Catalonia. It can be seen from nearly 360 degrees, but some of the most interesting architecture is placed in the garden area, in the back of the building.
The Monastery appears in season 6 of Game of Thrones as the Citadel in Oldtown, the greatest center of learning in the world. Here is where Samwell Tarly, accompanied by Gilly and little Sam, approached to the front desk of the Maesters’ citadel where he wanted to train as a Maester, a learned man wise in history, science, and medicine.
The Arab baths – Bisbe Cartaña
After seeing the Cathedral, you can go through archway steps that take you behind the Cathedral. Take this route to Bisbe Cartaña, near the Jardins de la Francesa.
Here is where you will see Girona’s Arab Baths that was built in the style of the Muslim baths and date all the way back to the 12th century. They were the perfect setting for a famous scene of fight training between Arya and the Waif in the Free City of Braavos. The Waif was an acolyte of the Faceless Men serving in the House of Black and White in Braavos who played The Game of Faces with Arya so he could prove that she is worthy of becoming a Faceless Men.
The steps of Sant Domenec The steps of Sant Domenec are narrow stone stairs leading up to Pujada Sant Domenec’s convent doors. These steps were the place where the market scene with Arya and The Waif was filmed. You will recall the scene when Arya jumps out the window and lands in the middle of the market, knocking over an orange cart.
