Three Kings Parade
This parade happens every year on the night before Epiphany. In Spain, the Three Kings or Three Wise Men are bringing presents to the kids that make the January 5th the most exciting night of the year for them. Called the Cavalcada de Reis, a huge parade is organized around the streets. Some of the floats are spectacular, the most important are those who carry the kings themselves. They sail on the waves and their resplendent ship is greeted by the city mayor who gives them the keys to the city for the evening to unlock the houses and leave the presents for the children. The ship starts to sail around 4 pm at Port Vell and sets off from the Ciutadella Park usually around 6 pm and finishes with colorful parade floats from where the Three Kings throw sweets to the crowds of very excited children. This is the day when people traditionally get the presents for Catalans and is not on Christmas.
Chinese New Year celebration
In Barcelona, there is a big enough community of Chinese with 19,000 members to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. That special and unique day is on January 25th. Maybe Catalonia and Barcelona are famous for its dragons but imagine the Chinese, the area around the Arc De Triomf are all the activities that take place. The Dragons street parade last year was at 11:30 am and some events and shows until 8 pm that evening.
